The Basics of Lighting
Outdoor lighting should provide three things:
A well-lighted property is one deterrent to invasion, according to crime statistics. When guests arrive they should be directed by the lighting. Lights should also be placed in useable outdoor activity locations such as sports courts, pools and outdoor rooms. At Sneed’s we like to use a creative approach to light placement to provide the visible appeal without glaring distractions.
We provide low-voltage lights by FX Luminaire through the Garden Center and Landscape Department. We also provide other lights by other manufacturers through the Landscape Department.
Four Basic Lighting Techniques
Down lighting provides security, moon light effect, and site workability. Lights are typically hidden in the landscape.
Up lighting provides security in dark corners, drama along buildings and highlights for landscape specimens and lawn sculpture. Lights are typically hidden in the landscape.
Path lighting provides direction and safety. Selection should be through personal choice and architectural blending due to visibility.
Specialty lighting is holiday lighting, BBQ lights, underwater lights, column lights to name a few.
