Service Description

To most people, the word "orchid" conjures up something exotic--showy, otherworldly flowers on plants that originated in far-off jungles. Even gardeners and naturalists familiar with Bletilla striata or aware that ladies' slippers are in fact orchids often assume that these are the exceptions to the rule, a few outliers to a tropical family that can often be grown as houseplants but not in the garden. In truth, orchids rank with Asters as one of the two largest families of flowering plants, and can be found nearly worldwide, with a few dozen native species and at least one Eurasian invasive right here in the Mid-Atlantic. Join Jacob as we seek to dispel some of the myths around this misunderstood group, in the hopes of creating a new appreciation for a truly fascinating plant family.
