Bob Sneed, Owner

After a summer job at a small nursery in 1972 I was hooked.  I left the University of Richmond to begin my career in the nursery business as the low man on the crew.  We did everything "old school".  We hand dug plants all morning and then planted them in the afternoon.  The world of plants and landscaping were second nature to me so it was only natural to begin my own landscape business.

Despite my lack of formal training in landscaping or landscape design the company grew and expanded into a respected landscape firm offering quality design and installation.

Our nursery in Bon Air is on land that has been in our family since 1886, and is located adjacent to my grandmother’s family home. She loved boxwoods and bequeathed all 24 of her grandchildren 25 American boxwoods which she had rooted herself.

The garden center began in December of 1975 when we sold Christmas trees for the first time.  The following spring we officially opened the garden center using The Family Tree as our name.  Over the years, we have evolved into Sneed’s Nursery and The Landscape Department @ Sneeds Nursery.

What we are doing at Sneed’s  is a dream come true.  It would not be possible without contributions from very fine family, friends, employees and customers!

Tim Krueger, Designer

Tim Krueger has been a design associate with Sneed’s Nursery since the spring of 2003. He holds a master’s degree in landscape architecture from Virginia Tech and an undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Delaware. Prior to joining Sneed’s Nursery, Tim worked as a design associate at Garden Design Group in Wilmington, Delaware. While there he gained practical experience under an award winning landscape architect.

Tim’s approach to landscape architecture is based on both experience and tradition. His love for the outdoors and a childhood of tinkering in the garden led him to pursue a career in residential landscape architecture. Many of his design ideas are generated from nature, public and private gardens, and literature. He believes that every project is unique, whether big or small, and that a great landscape should complement both your house and lifestyle.

Tim has designed and managed the installation of many large and small projects in the Richmond area. His projects include outdoor kitchens, walkways and patios, swimming pool complexes, and gardens.

As an associate at a full-service design/build company, Tim is able to offer construction services for many of his projects. Most installations can be done all at once or in phases.

Tim is a member of the Virginia Society of Landscape Designers. He was awarded the Designers Choice Award in 2009 for a large patio project at a Richmond residence.
